I want to share some exciting things that God is doing in our ministry. I am now almost half a year into my role with Global Bible Initiative. Global Bible Initiative (GBI) is a 20-year-old Bible Translation ministry founded in Japan and now based in Grandville, Michigan. God has called GBI to do three things:
Through advanced software and data that our team (led by a former Microsoft computational linguist) has developed, we are able to dramatically reduce the time it takes to translate the entire Bible from Greek and Hebrew into a target language, from 25-30 years to under 10! From Southeast Asia to Eastern Europe to Central Africa, GBI currently has seven Bible Translation projects taking place. We believe Isaiah 55:11 that says, “so shall my word be that goes out from my mouth; it shall not return to me empty, but it shall accomplish that which I purpose and shall succeed in the thing for which I sent it.” (ESV)
GBI is collaboratingwith major Bible Translation ministries including Wycliffe, American Bible Society, Biblica, United Bible Societies, an dothers to help them accelerate their translation projects! With 7,099 languages in the world, and fewer than 700 of them having a complete Bible in their language, there is much to be done to provide God’s Word to everyone.
GBI is working to provide technology, tools and training to the local church around the world to equip them to accurately translate the Bible for themselves, but not by themselves. We are also seeking to create partnerships with domestic churches and other organizations to help with this work.
If you would like to see all the people of the world have a copy of God’s Word in their heart language, we would be honored to have you come alongside GBI with a much-needed gift to empower Bible Translation. Believing John 3:17, that God sent his son, Jesus “…in order that the world might be saved,” our passion is to see people come to Christ through the Word of God.
A missionary in Western Europe recently wrote, “…we distributed a New Testament, translated and provided by GBI, in Chinese to a tourist from China and when she took it, she was very excited! She hugged the NT many times. I know that God is moving, and I must pray! I pray for you! Please also pray for this woman! We pray that she can accept Christ as her Lord and Savior!”
